Beginner Sewing; Introduction to Sewing; Develop Your Sewing Techniques

This sewing course is designed for those who have never sewn before or those who wish to revisit sewing and learn the basic fundamentals again.

You will learn how to take correct measurements to make the garment in your size, lay up and cut the fabric correctly, use a sewing machine and how to solve common sewing problems.

You will be provided with instructions and materials to start sewing. We also provide sewing machines, overlockers and basic sewing tools for you to use. How easy is that!

If you would like to get to know how your machine works you are welcome to bring your own machine, but you do need to bring the manual for the machine.

Introduction to Sewing

Introduction to Sewing; Beginner Sewing; Sewing Courses; Sew Teach MeDuring this sewing class you will learn the basics of sewing while making a skirt to your size.

You will learn how to:

  • Set up a sewing machine
  • Lay up pattern pieces & cut in fabric
  • Sew and press darts
  • Finish raw edges with an overlocker
  • Insert an invisible zipper
  • Sew a waistband
  • Finish a hem with a mitred corners and vent
  • Complete the perfect button and button hole

The fabric and notions (zippers, threads, etc) will be supplied for your first skirt.

In this class you will have time to complete a second skirt or short. You will need to purchase the fabric and accessories for this project.

Keep on Sewing …

As the course name suggests … this is where you “Keep on Sewing …”

This course provides two  flexible options.

You can either:

1.  Bring your own sewing project(s). This could be a garment, home furnishings, or you may like to do some refashioning, revive, mend, adjust fittings or pattern make, it is entirely up to you.

OR

2.  Purchase an “Additional Sewing Pack” to develop your sewing techniques with provided notes and materials.

This is the class for you if you need help, access to equipment, room to spread out, “Me Time” without interruptions or to get together with other people who enjoy the creative experience.

As you work at your own pace, I will be able to guide you along the way with helpful tips and techniques to give your project a professional look.

There are 2 options: Classes are scheduled throughout the year as either: 5 hours (one day) or 12 hours (over 4 weeks).

1. Duration: 5 hours: (1 Day)

Cost: $65 + cost of additional pack (which is optional)

Overlocker Know How

Overlocker Know How; Intermediate Sewing Courses: Overlocking; Sew Teach Me

This overlocker class is conducted as a one day workshop. During the course you will learn how to use your overlocker correctly and various applications. You’ll be surprised by what you can do with an overlocker. For this class you will need to bring your own overlocker.

In this class you will learn:

  • Not to be afraid of your overlocker
  • The correct way to thread the overlocker and how to change the thread
  • Achieve the correct tension for a range of finishes
  • Overlock around curves and corners
  • Seams for different fabrics
  • Rolled hems
  • Gathering
  • Applying elastic
  • Flat locking and blind hem

Additional threads, sample fabrics and class notes will be supplied on the day. You just need to bring your own threaded overlocker (and manual).
