Level 4: Harnessing Your Creativity
Intermediate: Design. In this level the emphasis developing skills in patternmaking where you will use a bodice, sleeve and skirt blocks to create a wide variety of styles which when combined you can create any style you dream up.
You will learn how to create different design features which will help you to create your own designs, whether it is to add a new sleeve or neckline to an existing pattern or start from scratch to complete your own design.
At the end of the classes you will be able to analyse a design and be able to make and adapt patterns from a sketch or photo.
To do these classes you will need to have an understanding of sewing and how garments go together. Ideally you would have already completed some of the sewing classes from level 1, level 2 or level 3 or be a competent sewer.
401 Introduction to Patternmaking
You will learn to make your own sewing patterns so you can create your own style.
By changing the patterns created in 301 Personalised Fit or patterns provided in this class – you are able to achieve a wide range of of styles for tops, dresses, skirts and pants.
In this class you will learn how to:
- Make skirts styles including flare and pleats
- Construct circle and gored skirt to individual measurements
- Waistbands – Fitted and Elasticised
- Pockets and facings
- Moving Darts to various positions
- Panel lines
- Develop a range of collars
- Patternmake sleeves styles
By learning these techniques you are able to adapt and change patterns to create your own individual style.
You will be provided with extensive course notes and paper to make your patterns.
Please note: You will not have time to make garments from your patterns in this class but you could make them in course 201 Sew What You Want.
