Level 2: The Next Stage – Continue your Journey
Intermediate Sewing. This is the next step up where you will learn further sewing techniques to produce more detailed garments.
You ideally should have completed the beginner sewing class 101 Introduction to Sewing or be able to use a sewing machine independently.
201 Sew What You Want
As the course name describes … this is where you can “Sew What You Want.”
You will bring to class your own sewing project(s). This could be a garment, accessories, home furnishings, or you may like to do some garment alterations, remodelling or mending, it is entirely up to you.
This is the class for you if you need help, access to equipment, room to spread out, “Me Time” without interruptions or to get together with other people who enjoy the creative experience.
As you work at your own pace , I will be able there to guide you along the way with helpful tips and techniques to give your project a professional look.
You will need to provide the pattern, materials and notions for your garment. Please ensure you pre-shrink your fabric before attending class.

202 Stretch My Skills
This short introduction workshop will provide you with the knowledge needed when sewing with stretch fabrics.
Topics covered in this workshop include:
- Machine requirements and stitches to use
- Identifying the difference between knitted and woven fabrics
- Advantages and disadvantages of knitted fabrics
- Calculating the fabric stretch and choosing the correct pattern to use
- Seam and hem finishes for knits
- Apply rubber/elastic to garments
Course notes and fabric samples are provided in this course.
After completing this workshop you may wish to enrol in the 201 Sew What You Want course to work on your own stretch projects and use the techniques learnt from this workshop.

203 Overlocker Know How
This overlocker class is conducted as a one day workshop on a weekend or over two evenings. During the course you will learn how to use your overlocker correctly and various applications. You’ll be surprised by what it can do. Learn to love your overlocker! For this class you will need to bring your own overlocker.
In this class you will learn:
- Not to be afraid of your overlocker
- The correct way to thread the overlocker and how to change thread
- Achieve the correct tension
- Overlock around curves and corners
- Rolled hems
- Applying elastic
Additional threads, sample fabrics and class notes will be supplied on the day. You just need to bring your threaded overlocker (and manual).
